Welcome to Year 5!
Class Teachers: Mrs Lemm, Mr Chapman, Miss Bentley and Mr Taylor
At Southey Green, we promise to provide our children with 6 unique experiences in each year group. We call these ‘Southey’s Super Six’. These tasks give our children something to look forward to each year and in places, provide an opportunity that the children may not have previously had.
Take a look at our topics for this coming year. We intend to teach the children a wide range of skills alongside an array of knowledge for each unit. There may be slight changes throughout the year depending on weather, availability and other opportunities that arise.
Y5 have been exploring a range of different emotions. First of all we talked about what emotions we could feel, and which of these would be the most negative ones. We all thought about times that we may have felt this way and discussed how our bodies might respond to these emotions, e.g. crying. Then we talked about strategies we could use that might help us overcome these emotions. We were all very keen to help others manage their feelings and so we put together some helpful guides. Keep smiling J
Our Learning in Year 5
In Computing and Online Safety, we have been learning all about the World Wide Web and when it was created. After that, we have looked carefully at how we can keep ourselves and others safe on the internet. Here are a few of our online creations to show what we have learned.
Trip to Castleton
We were lucky enough to go on a school trip to Castleton in the Peak District. Despite the wet weather we had a lovely time completing activities that will help us with our ‘Fantastic Fieldwork’ unit in Geography. We developed our geography skills by carrying out a land use survey, traffic count, field sketch and a sketch map. Our favourite part was completing the traffic count!
