Children's University
Southey Green School is registered with Sheffield Children's University.
After-school activities run through the week up to 4pm and during some school holidays. These are advertised by being displayed in each classroom. Students who attend full sessions will build up credits for their commitment through the Sheffield Children's University. Each hour that students participate in extracurricular activities earns them 1 credit. These credits are then recorded and rewarded with an invite to the Awards Ceremonies where students will collect an achievement certificate and badge. Students can also order their passport to learning from the Main Office in school priced at just £4.50, these then can be taken to other activity destinations throughout Sheffield to earn their credits.
Below is the framework to show calculation of credits per certificate.

We have been very proud of our amazing selection of Extra Curricular activities at Southey Green Primary so far. In November 2023 we boasted 28 FREE activities per week for our children to participate in and it’s thanks to the commitment of teaching staff and support staff that have ran these fantastic activities throughout the week either at breakfast clubs, lunch clubs, after school activities and holiday activities that we are able to provide exciting opportunities and experiences for our children to get involved in. |
Gold Awards Ceremonies are held three times each year in Prestigious Sheffield City Council buildings to reward students that have gained over 100 hours of extra-curricular learning through activities of their choice either in school or across various learning destinations throughout Sheffield with a Passport to Learning. On Wednesday 1st November the award winners and their families were invited to Firth Hall in Sheffield, dress in a cap an gown and receive their certificates from Children’s University VIP’s |
Each of our year groups also have a weekly celebration assembly to share all the amazing learning that has been going on and to recognise all the efforts and achievements of our children. Our November Gold Certificates along with our other Credit Award Certificates were all presented during their year group celebration assembly. A huge well done to all the children that received a certificate this time. |
The Children’s University team are organising FREE 2023 activities for you and your whole family to get involved in, check out their website to learn how to sing up and get involved: www.childrensuniversity.co.uk |
