Welcome to Year 2!
Class Teachers: Miss Ryan, Miss Armitstead and Mr Chapman
Children in year 2 have many wonderful learning experiences throughout the year.
At Southey Green, we promise to provide our children with 6 unique experiences in each year group. We call these 'Southey's Super Six'. These tasks give our children something to look forward to each year and in places, provide an opportunity that the children may not have previously had.
Autumn 1 Best Bits
Year 2 have been making some delicious smoothies, as part of their DT learning this half term. We tried a variety of different fruits and combinations, when deciding our final product.
Year 2 - Autumn 2 Best Bits
Year Two had a fantastic time at Elm Lane Fire Station, we had the opportunity to explore the different types of equipment inside the fire engine, while comparing them to items used to tackle the Great Fire of London. We were able to sit inside the fire engine, squirt the hose and even wear some of their clothing before exploring the fire station.
In English we wrote some super descriptions of a brave firefighter and in History we linked this to The Great Fire of London and the issues they faced without a fire brigade.
What a fantastic term we’ve had in Year 2 so far!
In English, we have been working on writing a non-chronological report all about China. We visited a ‘Chinese restaurant’ and explored some local delicacies. Throughout the unit, we also looked at China’s location, history and native animals.
In Jigsaw, we looked at what it meant to be a good team player. We took on different roles and responsibilities to help us collaborate to create a shared piece of art! We found working as a group made tasks easier!
