Year 2
Welcome to Year 2!
Class Teachers: Miss Ryan, Miss Vickerman, Miss Hubbard and Miss Armitstead
Children in year 2 have many wonderful learning experiences throughout the year.
At Southey Green, we promise to provide our children with 6 unique experiences in each year group. We call these 'Southey's Super Six'. These tasks give our children something to look forward to each year and in places, provide an opportunity that the children may not have previously had.
Sheffield in the UK
In our geography learning, Year 2 have been learning about Sheffield and where Sheffield is within the UK. We have used maps, atlases and globes to locate Sheffield on our own! We have also been learning about the 4 countries that make up the United Kingdom and their capital cities! We have really impressed our teachers by using the maps and globes well! In our Jigsaw lessons, Year 2 had a challenge to work effectively in groups to make some imaginary birds for ‘A Garden of Dreams and Goals’. In their groups of four, the children had the task of working cooperatively to create an imaginary dream bird that might live in the garden of dreams and goals. The children worked fantastically to ensure everyone worked as a team and everyone's ideas were included.

Science - Animal Explorers
In science, Year 2 have been learning about animals. We have explored what animals need to survive. We know that animals need water, food, shelter and air. We know that animals, including humans, have offspring. Sometimes an animal's offspring looks like their adult - sometimes they are completely different! We talked about their similarities and differences.
