Welcome to Year 2!
Class Teachers: Miss Hubbard, Miss Vickerman, Miss Crouch and Miss Armitstead
Children in year 2 have many wonderful learning experiences throughout the year.
At Southey Green, we promise to provide our children with 6 unique experiences in each year group. We call these 'Southey's Super Six'. These tasks give our children something to look forward to each year and in places, provide an opportunity that the children may not have previously had.
Our Learning in Year 2
Visit to the fire station
Wow! In year 2 we visited Elm Lane Fire Station as part of our Great Fire of London topic to learn about the fantastic work of the fire service and fire safety. What a great time we had! We all got to squirt the hose, climb into the fire engine and look at their uniform. We even got to see all the different equipment and heard the siren. Thank you Elm Lane Fire Station. When we got back to school we wrote a recount of what we did and an instructional text on how to be a fire fighter.
In English (reading and writing) we have been learning about different texts written by Julia Donaldson. We have read Zog, Stickman, Tabby McTat and Follow the Swallow. Our favourite story has been Stickman because we liked how he went on a journey. We found out that most of her stories rhyme, are about animals and they have a happy ending. We compared the different texts, answered questions and created our very own Julia Donaldson wooden spoon characters. Take a look at what we have been up to!
We have been learning all about Sheffield our local area. We really like Sheffield and shared our opinions of Sheffield. Following on from our learning about Stickman, we went on a journey around our school grounds. When we returned to class, we devised a map of the journey and used a key.
