Class Music Lessons
Children here at Southey Green each year group spends a full term receiving a weekly music lesson. In these lessons we listen to music, sing music, and play music with a variety of instruments. Our objectives in class are:
- To be able to use our voices expressively and be creative, often through improvisation.
- Be able to play our instrument musically, these being tuned or untuned.
- To be able to listen in a focused manner and understand music leading us to be able to compose music of our very own.
In our music class lessons we encourage solo and group performance from a very early age whether this be with voice or an instrument. We work really hard using rhythm patterns to help improve our aural skills.
We always learn by ear first before we start to study notation and understand the staff.
Throughout the year groups in school we aim to deliver an understanding of the history of music and how all the related dimensions of music link to the music we are studying at the time.
One of our highlights in school is our weekly singing assembly led by Mr Mason. We meet in the Upper Hall and learn to sing songs together and sometimes even actions to go with them! If you would like to know more about these songs the children will love to tell you more and no doubt share them too!
