A selection of girls played in a friendly tournament against Foxhill, Monteney and Nether Green which was organised by Monteney school this month. The emphasis was about fun, enjoyment and sportsmanship. The girls played extremely well and showed some great skills throughout the afternoon. Goal of the day was scored by Morgan Blyth who cracked in a very sweet half volley. Well done to everyone who took part and good luck to the Year 6's who will be moving onto pastures new.
A team consisting of Year 4 & 5 girls competed at a tournament organised by Westfield School at Concord Sports Centre on Tuesday 4th April 2017. We played and won all 4 games in the morning group and won 2 out of 3 in the afternoon, losing only to the eventual winners. All the girls had great fun and enjoyed a great day of football.
The 2016/17 season hasn't quite been as successful as last seasons especially with all but one of last seasons girls having left the nest for their secondary schools. The new team has bonded well over the last few months though and we played very well in our 2 league matches in February considering it was some of our children's first ever time playing in a competitive game. We are hoping to play some more friendlies in the spring summer months and hopeful some small sided tournaments.
The 2016-17 girls football team for this year was selected a few weeks ago. We have been doing some basic training skills and matches to get us ready for our league matches starting in January 2017.
Team - Saffron-Rose Wilson, Bethany Holmes, Demi Buttery, Georgia Taylor, Lucy Andrews, Chanae Green Libby Graham, Molly Truelove Yates, Morgan Blyth, Amber Mayfield, Ava Andrews, Tiana McMurtrie, Ruby Caveney, Angel Campbell & Scarlett Edwards.
A newly formed team consisting of Year 3,4 & 5 girls competed at an tournament orgainsed by Sheffield United Football in the Community at Concord Sports Centre on Wednesday 13th April 2016. They played most of their matches against Year 4 & 5 girls yet showed no sign of nerves. We played 8 games overall, winning 4 matches and competing very well in the others. Things look very bright for the future.
Y5/6 Sheffield Football League Fixtures and Results - 2015/16 Season
18th Jan 2016 - The Girls football team started their league fixtures with a comfortable 9-0 home win against Hartley Brook school. Goals came courtesy of Brooke (4), Neve (3), Jorja & Lucy.
22nd Jan 2016 - It was another fine display from the Girls football team. A battling 6-0 win against Pye Bank in tough conditions came courtesy of goals from Neve (4), Jorja & Brooke.
28th Jan 2016 - The Girls football team completed their league fixtures tonight with a 3rd clean sheet in a row and a rousing 8-0 win versus Byron Wood. Goals tonight came courtesy of Neve (4), Jorja (2), Lucy and a Byron Wood own goal. The girls have approached each game the same. They play with such passion, joy and excitement that I’m surprised some of them haven’t burst!! I know the parents, as well as I, have loved every minute watching them play and we are all very proud of what they have achieved this year. I must give a special mention and a big thank you to our school cleaner Jean Cooper who has always managed to wash and dry the kit in between each match so the girls are always looking their smartest on the pitch. Well done everyone.
October 21st 2015
On Wednesday 21st October the girls football team played in the area group stages of the Danone schools cup competition. We played 4 schools in total (Brunswick,Monteney, Oughtibridge & Hartley Brook) winning all 4 of them, 2-0, 3-0, 1-0 and 2-0 respectively. Although Neve scored all our goals it was a truly solid team performance with every player showing real energy and enthusiasm. We now go on to represent our school in the Sheffield Finals to be held next month where we will face the winners of the other 3 groups. A big well done to all the girls that took part.
November 6th 2015
Under the glowing lights of Sheffield Wednesday’s training dome, the Y5/6 girls football team can now class themselves as Sheffield Champions 2015-16, after winning the Sheffield Finals of the 'Danone 7-a-side cup competition'. It was yet another fantastic display full of determination against the 3 other regional Sheffield Group stage winners (Mundella, Greenhill & Nethergreen). Winning all of their 3 games 3-1, 2-0 and 3-0 respectively thanks to a flurry of goals from Neve (5), Brooke (2) and Jorja (1) it certainly was an afternoon to remember. We even met and had a photo with ex Everton and now SWFC Academy coach Danny Cadamarteri, although the girls and some of the parents had no idea who he was. Well done to everyone who took part and a huge thank you to all the parents that turned up to voice their encouragement and support. We now move on to the South Yorkshire Finals on Thursday 19th November at Balby Carr School, Doncaster, where further and probably stronger opposition awaits.
November 19th 2015
The Girls football team had a fabulous day representing the school and city at the ESFA Danone 7-a-side county cup finals held at Doncaster’s Balby Carr Sports College this afternoon. We played 7 matches overall winning 3, drawing 3 and losing 1. With over 120 primary schools taking part from the first round back in October, our final points tally put us in the runners up spot for the entire region of South Yorkshire, which is some achievement to say the girls have only been playing together as a team since September. I would just like to say a very big thank you to all the girls for training so hard, playing with their hearts on their sleeve and for performing with such passion and enjoyment. A big thank you also goes to the parents for their support and encouragement throughout. Well done Girls!!!
