Gifted & Talented Summer School 2016
Day one: The children were raring to go - First we choose a book from the library to read for the rest of the week. Next we started our literacy Healthy Eating booklets and accessed various Maths activities online. Top marks, Mathletics and Cool Maths Games were our favourites! We finished the morning by playing football, bat and ball and skipping. We made our own delicious sandwiches for lunch then headed to the Art Space to get creative we designed our own T-Shirts and to round off the day we used some more energy dancing in the hall to Wii Dance!
Day two: A fun filled, busy day! Firstly, Mrs Thomson’s son, William, came in to help with music. We used the new guitar, piano and drum Apps on our IPads to help. We formed bands, created album covers, videoed songs and researched lyrics. Some children created their own song and performed them at the end of the day. We also played some instruments in the music room! In the afternoon we painted wonderful colourful string pictures and even some messy splat paint art outside! Finally we had a food tasting session – Josh loved the sour lemon!
Day three: Weston Park Museum trip - We had a fantastic day spotting the elephants in the park, to the Camouflage workshop, to the Artic area of the museum and much more! The children were a credit to our school and commented on how much they enjoyed the trip. Tilly said, ‘I don’t know why but I just love museums!’
Day four: Today we played Rounder’s, followed by cooking! We made our own wraps, cous cous, fruit salad and chocolate crispy buns! We took some home to share with our families too.
Day Five: Today we finished the week with some Wii Dance and Karaoke! We also had a very own ‘Southey’s Got Talent’. We managed to fit in a game of Dodgeball, update our journals, complete some more Literacy/Maths, and sew our very own bookmarks! Finally, we went outside for a Science experiment – Add a Mentos mint to Coke = messy explosion! What an action packed, fun, educational week to remember for all. An experience the children will reminisce on.
