Football Tournament - 18th October 2017
Lound – Drew 0-0
Oughtibridge Drew 0-0
Hucklow – Drew 0-0
Marcliffe – Won 1-0
Due to the very small nets that had been put in place, the games between all the schools involved were very close. As the last game approached against Marcliffe, the boys knew that a 1-0 win would mean they finished top of the group, a 2-0 win would mean they won the tournament and progressed to the next round. The boys battled hard and after a number of chances being created and either missed or being saved by the opposition goalkeeper, Aston Milnes finally scored. At this point, the team decided they wanted to go ahead and attempt to win the tournament outright by scoring a second goal. Despite their attempts, they were unable to squeeze the ball home on several occasions.
A 1-0 victory ensured a playoff against Lound.
Again, the team were unlucky with several attempts at goal (more so due to the size of the nets). Nothing seemed to go our way including the match being interrupted by Mrs Pilling phoning myself half way through the match whilst I was trying to direct them forward. The play off finished 0-0 and the match went to penalties.
Southey came out 2-0 winners in the penalty shoot-out after goals from Billy Macdonald and Corey Hague. Ryan Arnold saved all 4 penalties.
The next round will be Tuesday 19th December at Sheffield Springs Academy (Matches commencing at 4pm). I’m sure the boys would appreciate your support.
They will also play this Friday in the league against Beck if anyone is interested in supporting. The match will be played at home (behind the sports space)
A big thank you once again to all the parents that not only came and supported but also helped with lifts.
Boys Football League Results
Watercliffe Meadow 6 - 3 Southey Green 'B'
Watercliffe Meadow 0 - 6 Southey Green 'A'
Southey Green 'A' 2 - 2 Pye Bank
Goals from Jayden Hawley and Jacob Brammer with a last minute equaliser. Great credit to Corey Hague who showed a great attitude for the rest of the match after missing a penalty early on.
Southey Green 'B' 1 - 2 Pye Bank
Sam Whittington scored the opening goal which saw the whole team celebrate together. Their effort was in particular was recognised by the opposition team and manager as they were never gave up and showed exceptional work rate, especially as they had to wait outside for 30 minutes in the wind and rain whilst team 1 played first.
Despite a number of regular members of the team missing, both teams represented the school and were a credit to themselves and us. They all worked tirelessly and never gave up. Some of the children had never represented the school before and others were actually playing against children 2 years older than themselves. A big thanks to the all those parents who helped at the end tidying up and putting the goals away.
Southey Green 'A' 3 - 2 Beck
Southey Green 'B' 0 - 6 Beck
