The Local Authority admits children to the school by using the criteria set down in their brochure ‘A Partnership with Parents’. Normally priority is given to children who live with parents or guardians within the catchment area of the school.
Applications for children born between 1st September 2014 and 31st August 2015 will be closed for online applications on 4th December 2018 and paper applications will be closed on 15th January 2019. You will be informed shortly afterwards whether your child has been allocated a place. It is possible to admit pupils up to the schools ‘standard number’ of 90 children in each year group.
Children transfer into Reception classes in September. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that they apply for a school place for their children when entering Reception for the first time.
Before the start of the school year, the school offer the opportunity to visit the setting and meet the teachers. When a place is offered, introductory visits are arranged between home and school and children have the opportunity to attend the set transition days.
At Southey Green, we aim to provide a happy and secure environment in which every child can experience a wide variety of learning opportunities as well as being able to play co-operatively alongside and with other children. The planned Foundation Stage curriculum builds upon the skills and understanding which each child has already acquired, and develops them in all areas of their learning and development, including social, emotional, physical and intellectual.
Key Stage 1 and 2
Children move into Year 1 in the September following their admission into the Reception classes.
Children continue to move through the year groups each September until they are ready to transfer at the end of Year 6 into secondary education.
